The story

A wealthy collegian falls in love with an heir apparent, but her domineering cousin orders her to end the affair.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated frames of costume colour, sunlit gardens and glossy interiors give this Hindi romance the look of a late-nineties studio musical, with the camera often sweeping through staged song numbers and playful chases. The score is buoyant pop and orchestral swells, and the mood stays cheerful and affectionate, cosy rather than sombre, with comic exchanges and a family-drama undertow that never gets heavy. Pacing is brisk and episodic, built around set pieces, quarrels and reconciliations rather than slow reflection. Its central pairing is a young couple pushing against an overbearing relative's authority while the household around them bends and shifts, so the emotional arc is about nerve, loyalty and winning people over. Intensity is low: some shoving and tense confrontations, with no gore, no sexual content, and little real cruelty; the menace is theatrical and quickly defused. It suits a playful weekend afternoon, a comfort rewatch, or a lighthearted evening with company, and it is for viewers who enjoy romance with big personalities, melodrama played for warmth, and music that carries the story.
