The story

Play as one of the Scratch Cats, an elite superhero team, who are out to save the world from Washington and Jefferson, two evil mutant space rats who wish to enslave the world in rats. Explore each puzzle level and wipe out the rat threat. First you need to catch the rat, using the Eraticator. Then you must find the Destructor pad in each level in order for the rat to be taken out. Each level has a quota of rats you must remove, and if you fail to do so within the time limit (which, in this case, is when the rats destroy everything in the level), you lose.

What it’s like

Bright, busy and cartoonish, with the chunky, dated presentation of late-nineties console and PC games, it suits a quick puzzle session. Each stage is a self-contained board to read at a glance, and the pressure comes from a ticking clock and a crowd of scurrying rats rather than sustained dread. The rhythm is brisk and repetitive in a satisfying arcade way: catch a pest, find the right pad, repeat until the quota is cleared. Failure is a slapstick wipeout rather than anything grim. Sound leans bouncy and effects-driven, with light jingles and chirps that stay cheerful under time pressure. There is no gore and no real menace; the tension is a mild rush of time-limit panic. It works for an easy, playful afternoon, a short burst of focus while half-distracted, or a nostalgic go on an old console. It suits players who want gentle, lighthearted puzzling with arcade momentum, playable solo or with a friend in split screen, and who don't mind the simple, period-specific look.
