The story
21 year-old slacker Sam Oliver learns that his parents sold his soul to the devil before he was born, and now Sam has to repay the debt by becoming the Devil's bounty hunter, retrieving souls that have somehow escaped from Hell.
What it’s like
Bright, warm, and mostly well-lit, with the grey drizzle of Seattle filtered through big hardware-store fluorescents, sunny suburban kitchens, and cluttered garages in easy daylight. Hell appears as a red-orange glow, drifting smoke, and sets that look more like a sly theatre production than a nightmare. The camera stays cheerfully conventional, with mid-range two-shots, quick cuts for banter, and a steady, light pulse of pop-rock needle drops that keeps everything bouncing along. The vibe is breezy, goofy, and gently sincere, with a comfort-watch feel for a lazy weekend, a background episode while folding laundry, or a long-haul flight. Pacing is episodic and brisk, with self-contained hunts and a running thread that deepens slowly. Its emotional register is warm and playful, following a directionless young man learning to show up for his family and his friends. Intensity is low: some cartoonish demon scuffles and bursts of comic peril, a little crude humour and innuendo, and no real gore or lingering cruelty. It suits people who want supernatural stakes softened into gentle, funny, feel-good television.
