The story

In San Francisco, Jill Valentine is dealing with a zombie outbreak and a new T-Virus, Leon Kennedy is on the trail of a kidnapped DARPA scientist, and Claire Redfield is investigating a monstrous fish that is killing whales in the bay. Joined by Chris Redfield and Rebecca Chambers, they discover the trail of clues from their separate cases all converge on the same location, Alcatraz Island, where a new evil has taken residence and awaits their arrival.

What it’s like

Cold, blue-grey night in San Francisco, with the bay and Alcatraz's prison silhouette rendered in crisp, glossy CGI that leans on dark-water reflections and hard fluorescent glare inside corridors and labs. The palette swings between chilly teal and sickly green contamination, and the camera moves with kinetic, anime-style cuts, fast tracking shots and sudden close-ups during fights. The score is driven by synth pulses and heavy percussion, with eerie drones underneath the zombie and creature sequences, and the sound design favours wet, grinding textures and gunfire. Vibe: slick, tense, pulpy. It suits a late-night watch with the lights off, or a comfort rewatch for fans of the games. Pacing is brisk and rarely lets up, with the main arcs following four survivors who regroup and trade their separate investigations back into one team. Intensity is high: frequent gunfights, zombie attacks and gory creature deaths, with blood and body horror shown openly but not lingered on for cruelty. Made for action-horror fans who want a fast, violent, familiar Resident Evil ride.
