The story
Rock Band 3 adds 83 new songs to the Rock Band library and for the first time supports a keyboard/keytar peripheral.
What it’s like
Bright stage lighting and bold, saturated colour cycle across a cartoonish arena, with polygonal crowds bobbing in bursts of strobe and a loose, cheerful glow over everything. The sound is the point: full-band recordings of rock, metal and pop sit at the centre, with the crowd roaring back at every good fill and a fat, clean mix that rewards getting in sync. It is high-energy and playful, a party vibe that tips toward euphoric when a long run builds up, and it suits a loud Friday night with friends, a living-room session after a few drinks, or a solo evening of chasing high scores with the volume up. Pacing is set by the song list, so it moves in punchy bursts, with quick restarts and short breaks between tracks. Emotionally it stays upbeat and competitive without being tense, and there is no violence, gore or sexual content, only mild rock-show swagger and the odd crude lyric in the metal. Built for players who want to play music rather than watch it, and for groups who want a shared, sweaty, good-humoured night in.
