The story

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Anomaly is a standalone mod powered by an x64 version of the X-Ray engine. Starting with version 1.5.0 Anomaly uses a custom engine build called the XRay-Monolith engine. After almost one year of development of the Anomaly 1.5.0 update, the mod continues its way on expanding and adding new features while maintaining a high level of quality and replay value. It is currently updated to 1.5.2 with planned updates in the future adding more features.

What it’s like

Murky, sodium-tinted dusk over rusting Soviet-era outposts, with rain-streaked visors, dim flashlight cones cutting through fog, and long stretches of wind across overgrown fields where the only sounds are footsteps on gravel, distant gunfire and the crackle of anomalies. Its vibe is bleak, wary and quietly tense, the kind of play that suits a late evening alone with headphones on or a long stretch of replaying a familiar zone. Pacing is deliberately slow: long exploration broken by sudden, unforgiving firefights, and each trip out into the Zone builds a careful, rationed dread. Intensity is high. Gunfights are frequent and deadly, with blood spatter and mutilated corpses, and jump-scare-style horror from mutants and anomalies can hit hard, though nothing is gratuitously sexual. Expect scarcity, stress and punishing survival rather than gentleness. It is for players who want a hardcore, open-ended survival shooter with atmosphere, heavy customisation and a sense of being small in a hostile place.
