The story

News anchorwoman Cindy Campbell has to investigate mysterious crop circles and killing video tapes, and help the President stop an alien invasion in the process.

What it’s like

Bright, flat studio lighting and cheap-looking sets that hum with the fluorescent glare of a 2003 soundstage, with the sort of broad, mugging close-ups and rapid-fire cutting that make every gag land in the center of the frame. Its palette is candy-saturated and unpretentious, moving from suburban kitchens and TV-news blue backdrops to a gleamy White House and a farmland night lit by cartoonish alien glows. The sound is a jumble of slapstick stings, squeaky sight-gag effects, and recognizable pop-culture needle drops, with almost no quiet moments. Vibe: loud, goofy, deliberately silly. It suits a Halloween-season hangout, a group watch with friends, or a rainy afternoon when you want something that asks nothing of you. Pacing is brisk and relentless, with punchlines stacked so densely that a missed one is quickly replaced by another. The emotional register stays playful throughout, and the central figures are bumbling but affectionate, a lovable heroine stumbling through absurd predicaments alongside her loyal friends. Intensity is low-stakes: comic peril, slapstick falls, sexual innuendo and crude jokes, and horror-movie parody scares that are staged for laughs, with no real gore or lasting cruelty. It is for people who want broad, irreverent comedy, parody fans, and anyone looking for a dumb, cheerful, easy-to-share laugh.
