The story
When Jay and Annie first got together, their romantic connection was intense – but ten years and two kids later, the flame of their love needs a spark. To kick things up a notch, they decide – why not? – to make a video of themselves trying out every position in The Joy of Sex in one marathon three-hour session. It seems like a great idea – until they discover that their most private video is no longer private. With their reputations on the line, they know they’re just one click away from being laid bare to the world... but as their race to reclaim their video leads to a night they'll never forget, they'll find that their video will expose even more than they bargained for.

Bright, flat suburban daylight and warm household interiors give Sex Tape a glossy, ordinary-life look: kitchens with cluttered counters, sunlit bedrooms, a loud Brooklyn-style city at night that turns into a blur of car headlights and phone-screen glow during the frantic chase. The camera stays mostly conventional and close, with plenty of medium two-shots and reaction cuts, and the score is upbeat pop and light synth that keeps the momentum bouncing. Its vibe is breezy, scrappy and warm, a frazzled-parents comedy that suits a lazy weekend, a comfort rewatch, or a night in with friends. The pacing is brisk and the comedy is loud, sometimes crude, with physical bits and running gags more than quiet moments. The emotional register stays affectionate: a long-married couple rediscovering their tenderness and humor after years of kids and routine. Intensity is sexually frank in dialogue and situations, with brief partial nudity and crude jokes, but no real violence, minimal peril and no gore. It is for people who want a raunchy, good-natured romp about marriage and modern embarrassment, and who are fine with bawdy talk.
