The story
Explore incredible places far from the Mushroom Kingdom as you join Mario and his new ally Cappy on a massive, globe-trotting 3D adventure. Use amazing new abilities, like the power to capture and control objects, animals, and enemies to collect Power Moons so you can power up the Odyssey airship and save Princess Peach from Bowser’s wedding plans!
What it’s like
Bright, saturated worlds with a cheerful toy-box sheen: sun-warmed deserts, glowing neon city streets, snowy peaks and lush tropical shorelines, all rendered in crisp, clean colour with bouncy, cartoonish animation and a soft, polished glow. Camera angles stay close and friendly, following Mario across wide open stages where the sense of discovery comes from peeking into every corner. The score is a jaunty mix of brass, marimba and jazzy themes that shift with each region, and the sound of coins, hats and fluttering Power Moons gives the whole thing a playful chime. The vibe is buoyant and whimsical, with a relaxed, low-pressure rhythm that suits a weekend afternoon, a long train ride or a quiet evening with the controller in hand. Pacing is self-directed: short bursts of collecting and exploring, with no timers pressing in. Emotionally it stays light and upbeat, with a gentle, good-natured running gag about a rescue mission. Violence is cartoonish and bloodless, with enemies simply bonking away, and there is no gore, fear or sexual content. It suits players who want a warm, colourful, gentle adventure and anyone who loves wandering a big world at their own pace.
