The story

As celebrated conductor Lydia Tár starts rehearsals for a career-defining symphony, the consequences of her past choices begin to echo in the present.

What it’s like

Cool, controlled frames dominate, with long takes that hold on Lydia Tár in rehearsal halls, gleaming Berlin apartments and quiet concert-hall wings, all lit in clean daylight, muted greys and polished wood, the camera often sitting back while people move through the space. Sound is central: orchestral rehearsals, recurring fragments of Bach and mahler-style strings, and sudden silences that make a room feel tense. The vibe is cool, watchful unease, a slow-burning drama that suits a focused evening when you want to sit with a film rather than be swept along by it. Pacing is deliberate, and the emotional register stays restrained, following a proud, controlling artist whose authority begins to fray and whose private life resurfaces in unsettling ways. Intensity is low on overt violence and gore, with no graphic bloodshed, but there is significant sexual content, infidelity, and a sharp, uncomfortable edge to power dynamics and the way people are treated. It is for adult viewers who enjoy character studies about ambition, reputation and music, and who can tolerate a story that never offers easy sympathy.
