The story

A gang of thieves calling themselves the Santa Claus Gang are wreaking havoc, and the police can't keep up. Police Captain Gilbert is distracted by a Chinese reporter writing a story on his squad, and taxi driver Daniel is in the midst of a relationship crisis. After a string of mistakes in which the thieves outsmart the police time and time again, Daniel and his super-taxi pitch in.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated daylight over Marseille, with sun-bleached streets, cramped police offices under fluorescent strip lights, and the hot, sweaty energy of a busy city in summer. The camera stays busy and kinetic: quick cuts, tracking shots of a yellow-and-black Peugeot weaving through traffic, and frequent wide set-pieces of car chases and heists framed for maximum slapstick. The score is bouncy and percussive, with synth stings and comic musical beats that underline every pratfall and near-miss. Vibe: loud, cheerful, and goofy, the kind of noisy comfort-food action comedy you can half-watch on a lazy weekend or with friends who want to laugh rather than think. Pacing is brisk and episodic, built on escalating gags, rivalry banter, and a loose-hearted buddy dynamic between a hot-headed cabbie and his bumbling police partner, with a romantic subplot stitched in. Intensity: moderate. Car crashes, gunfire, and heist violence are frequent but cartoonishly bloodless, with no gore and little real menace; there is some crude humor and mild sexual innuendo. Suited to fans of French action comedy who want high-octane spectacle with a wink, and to anyone after something light, silly, and undemanding.
