The story

When a kingpin threatens New York City, a group of mutated turtle warriors must emerge from the shadows to protect their home.

What it’s like

Bright, loud and kinetic, with the camera swooping through rain-slick Manhattan streets at night and sweeping over rooftops in long, aggressive dolly moves; the palette leans on sodium-orange streetlight, electric blue police strobes and a glossy, digitally polished sheen that makes every surface look wet. The score is a bombastic blend of drums and synth-rock that rarely lets up, and the sound design is crisp and punchy, with thudding impacts and whooshing shell-to-shell fights. It is a fast, high-energy ride with a buddy-comedy streak: four brothers squabble and tease each other between set pieces, and the emotional register is warm and earnest, centred on a found-family bond and a teenage reporter who gets swept up in their world. Expect frequent, cartoonish martial-arts violence with plenty of bruising and explosions, but no gore and little real menace. Best for a loud Friday night, a family movie with older kids, or anyone who wants an energetic, lightly funny superhero romp with no need for quiet.
