The story

Tekken 3 is the third installment in the Tekken series. It maintains the same core fighting system as its predecessors but brings many improvements, such as significantly more detailed graphics and animations, fifteen new characters added to the game's roster, more modern music and faster gameplay.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated arena stages under open daylight and dusk skies, with crowds, neon signage and rain-slick streets rendered in the crisp polygon look of late-nineties arcade hardware, its character models sharper and more fluidly animated than the series before. The sound is driven by a punchy, modern electronic and breakbeat soundtrack that pulses under every bout, with heavy thuds, crowd roars and the sharp announcer cues of an arcade tournament. Its vibe is kinetic, cheeky and competitive, a loud rush rather than a quiet one, best suited to a Saturday afternoon with friends on the couch or a comfort replay on a long evening. Pacing is quick and rhythmic: rounds are short, combos build fast, and a run through the single-player ladder moves from one flashy opponent to the next, with odd detours into minigames and unlockable oddities along the way. Emotional register stays light and playful, with rivalries and tournament pride as the main pull. Violence is stylised and cartoonish: fighters are knocked out, thrown and sent flying with exaggerated impact, and deaths are comic rather than grim, with no gore to speak of. It is for players who want fast hand-to-hand fighting, big personalities and a bright, boisterous arcade feel.
