The story
The Binding of Isaac: Repentance is the ultimate edition of the award-winning roguelike twin-stick shooter. It includes all the content from previous editions of The Binding of Isaac (Rebirth, Afterbirth and Afterbirth+) plus Repentance, the game's final and biggest-ever expansion, adding hundreds of additional new features, modes, and improvements. Experience the modern classic like it's never been seen before!
What it’s like
Crude, hand-drawn sprites with a scratchy, crayon-and-ink texture sit on dark, cramped basement rooms, their drawn-on wobble and splattered blood giving everything a grubby, childlike unease. The palette runs muddy browns, bruised purples and sudden bursts of bright red, and the camera stays fixed on a top-down view while you steer a crying child through dozens of procedurally generated chambers. The soundtrack is a loping, chiptune-leaning score that turns jaunty when the room is quiet and grinds into pulsing menace when enemies swarm, and the screen shakes and flashes when a boss lands. Sessions are short and tense, built around fast runs where each death resets everything and the next attempt starts fresh, so it suits a restless evening, a few rounds before bed, or a long-haul flight on a handheld. Its intensity is steady and frequent: cartoonish but relentless violence, gore in sprays of blood and bodily grotesquerie, religious imagery twisted into horror, and a recurring sense of dread that never quite tips into gore-for-shock. Fans of roguelikes, dense item-hunting and dark, absurd humour will find the most here, while anyone wanting something gentle should look elsewhere.
