The story

The Chronicles Of Myrtana: Archolos is a free, total conversion mod for Gothic II: Gold Edition. It features a completely new open world, improved skills systems, gameplay mechanics and complex story. Main goal of this project is to honour one the best classic cRPG and take the die-hard fans of the original Gothic trilogy as well as new players on one more adventure in the Kingdom of Myrtana.

What it’s like

Muted, earthy fantasy in the older Gothic engine style: dusty trails, mossy stone, overcast skies and torchlit camps, with a third-person camera that keeps you close to the ground. The mood is patient and a little lonely, the kind of unhurried wandering that suits a long evening alone with headphones or a slow weekend when you want to get lost in a map. Expect a sprawling, non-linear world where you explore at your own pace, pick up quests from wary villagers, and learn the land by walking it. Combat is deliberate and fairly punishing, with swordfights, archery and beast encounters that land with weight rather than spectacle, and the violence is steady and physical without being gratuitous. The pacing is slow and self-directed, and the story unfolds through conversations and discovery rather than cutscene bursts. It is aimed at veterans of the original Gothic trilogy who want a new chapter in a familiar kingdom, and at RPG players who enjoy building a character through effort, risk and exploration.
