The story

Noah, an 11-year-old boy with social anxiety disorder, has to start middle school, he turns to a mutt named Dude, a sarcastic emotional support dog who might need Noah as much as Noah needs him.

What it’s like

A warm, lightly comic family-friendly series with a gentle, friendship-first mood, the kind of thing to put on for an easy afternoon or a comfort rewatch. Its emotional core is a shy, anxious kid finding his footing at a new school, and the relationship that grows between him and a scruffy, sardonic dog gives the show its heart and much of its humor. The pacing stays unhurried and the stakes are everyday ones: first-day nerves, awkward classmates, small victories that feel large. Intensity is low throughout, with no violence and no frightening material, though the anxiety at the centre is treated sincerely, so there are quiet moments of worry. It suits children and adults who want something soft, funny and kind, and especially viewers drawn to stories about being an outsider and the animals who help us through hard stretches.
