The story

It's the summer before Elle heads to college, and she has a secret decision to make. Elle has been accepted into Harvard, where boyfriend Noah is matriculating, and also Berkeley, where her BFF Lee is headed and has to decide if she should stay or not.

What it’s like

Bright, sun-saturated summer light over a coastal California town: golden-hour haze on boardwalk fairy lights, warm pastel interiors, and glossy, high-key digital photography that keeps everything cheerful and slightly airbrushed. The camera stays busy with quick cuts, bouncy push-ins, and sunlit close-ups of teenage faces, while the score runs on pop-rock and synth-pop swells that lift each romantic beat. Its vibe is breezy, sentimental, and a little giddy, the kind of easy watch for a lazy July afternoon, a comfort rewatch with friends, or something on in the background while folding laundry. Pacing is brisk and episodic, with the emotional register stuck between sweet and melodramatic: a young woman weighing a long-distance romance against the pull of her own path, and a circle of friends who mostly squabble, reconcile, and tease one another. Intensity is low. There are arguments, jealous outbursts, and some clumsy romantic manipulation, but no real violence, gore, or fear, and the sexual content is mostly kissing and implied intimacy. It suits viewers who want a warm, familiar teen romance with a sun-washed look and a soft, unhurried heart.
