The story
When legendary treasures from around the world are stolen, including the priceless Pink Panther Diamond, Chief Inspector Dreyfus is forced to assign Inspector Clouseau to a team of international detectives and experts charged with catching the thief and retrieving the stolen artifacts.
What it’s like
Bright, sun-washed Parisian and Roman locations give this sequel a glossy, mid-2000s studio look: wide establishing shots of cobbled streets and pale stone facades, warm daylight in hotel suites and museum galleries, and a palette of cream, gold and candy-pink that suits the caper's jewel-box glamour. The camera stays mostly conventional and tidy, with plenty of two-shots and reaction close-ups set up for physical gags, and the score is light orchestral jazz with cheeky brass stings that tell you when to laugh. Pacing is brisk and episodic, built around escalating mishaps, mistaken identities and slapstick set pieces rather than any sustained tension, so the mood is breezy, silly and warm rather than suspenseful. The comedy is gentle and family-friendly, with only mild rude humour, a little peril played for laughs, and no real gore or cruelty. The emotional register stays light throughout, centred on a bumbling, self-assured detective whose oblivious confidence slowly draws him into a more productive partnership with a dogged colleague. It suits a lazy weekend afternoon, a comfort rewatch, or a group movie night, and fits people who want easy, goofy, low-stakes entertainment with pretty European backdrops.
