The story

On a bleak future Earth, a soldier endures a radical genetic transformation to save humanity. But his wife fears he's becoming more creature than man.

What it’s like

Cool, washed-out blues and greys dominate, with clinical white corridors, sterile lab interiors and long stretches of sickly green-tinged dim, so the film feels cold and institutional even when it is quiet. Its most striking visuals come from the transformation itself: close, unflinching framing of skin, bodily changes and the swimming pool where the process unfolds, shot with a hushed, almost reverent stillness. Sound design leans on low ambient drones, muffled water and a sparse electronic score that swells at moments of dread, with silence used to let tension sit. The vibe is bleak, clinical unease, the kind of melancholy that sits in a sterile room late at night. Pacing is deliberate, with long scenes between a husband and wife whose marriage frays as fear grows, and their arc is about love tested by change and the question of what remains of a person. The film is intense in places: there is violence and some gory body horror, mostly in short bursts, and the transformation scenes are visceral and disturbing rather than gratuitous. It suits viewers who want slow, moody science fiction with a strong emotional core and are comfortable with uneasy, graphic body imagery.
