The story

All existing owners of The Witcher 2 received free upgrades to the Enhanced Edition, and could pre-load the update starting 11 April 2012. All new copies on PC and Xbox 360 shipped with the additional content on board. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings - Enhanced Edition added over 10GB of new content, including four hours of gameplay, arena mode, new tutorial, 36 minutes of cinematics including a new intro created by Platige Image and an outro, as well as a host of fixes to gameplay and the interface.

What it’s like

Muddy greens, rain-soaked stone, and candlelit taverns with smoke hanging in the rafters give this game a grimy, painterly look, and its wide landscapes often feel washed in grey-gold dusk. The camera stays close to the characters during conversations, so the long dialogue scenes feel intimate and deliberate. The score leans on low strings, lute-like plucks, and soft choral swells, with long stretches of ambient rain and wind. Its vibe is melancholic and morally tangled, a dark fantasy of political intrigue, old grudges, and hard choices, best suited to a late evening alone or a long, unhurried weekend. Pacing is slow and methodical, punctuated by sharp, brutal combat with swords and magic, and investigative detours into crafting, alchemy, and card games. Violence is frequent and bloody, with gore and visible wounds, and there are sexual scenes with partial nudity, plus cruelty, racism, and some disturbing imagery. Contemplative, dark, and mature, it suits adult players who want a bleak, complicated world with weight and consequence rather than anything gentle.
