The story

A dramatic tale of golf and humans, set on the beautiful Tokara Islands. Igarashi has thrown away his past and fled society, relocating to Hinoshima Island. Here, on "Japan's last hidden paradise," he meets Tonbo, the island’s only middle schooler. To his surprise, this girl harbors an extraordinary talent for golf!? This encounter marks the beginning of a significant change in their destinies.

What it’s like

Sun-bright island days, with turquoise water, pale sand, and green headlands that stay in view through most episodes, and the hand-drawn animation leans toward clean lines and open, sunlit colour. Golf is staged as a quiet, precise craft: long pauses before a swing, the soft clack of a ball, wind moving through grass. The mood is warm and unhurried, a slice-of-life drift with a sports undertow, and the rhythm favours small domestic moments and island routines over big set pieces. The emotional register is hopeful and gently melancholic, centred on a displaced man and a gifted young girl slowly reshaping each other's sense of direction. Its intensity is low: no gore, little peril, and any tension comes from competition and self-doubt rather than danger or cruelty. It suits a lazy weekend morning, a calm evening with tea, or anyone wanting a coming-of-age story that feels like a long summer afternoon. It is for viewers who enjoy sports told at a human pace, quiet friendships, and landscapes that let them breathe.
