The story

As the twin-tailed comet arcs across the sky, those attuned to the Winds of Magic feel the air buckle with arcane energies. In torch-lit temple halls, fervent priests trace cobweb-threads of ancient geomancy, bowing their heads in fervent anticipation... All who know agree - a change is coming. From the thundering clouds of battle, a new god rears its scaled head. Sotek, the deliverer, god of Serpents and of War, has arrived. Truly an edition fit for a god, or at the very least a devoted high-priest, the Serpent God Edition comes wrapped in faux lizard skin, replete with stone effect glyphs modeled on Lord Mazdamundi's headdress, detailing the temple-cities of Lustria.

What it’s like

Warm jungle greens, sun-baked temple stone and ember-orange magic glow fill the sweeping overhead maps, while the battles play out as crowded, colourful tableaux of scaled warriors, cannon smoke and spectral light. The score swells with war drums, brass and choral chant, and the soundscape is dense with clashing steel, roaring beasts and incantations. Turns on the strategic map move at a measured, thoughtful pace, with long stretches of planning, then bursts into sudden, frantic skirmishes when armies meet. The vibe is grand, ceremonial and a little dark, the kind of game suited to a long evening, a planning session with a cup of tea, or a late-night campaign that drifts on for hours. Combat is frequent and large-scale: hordes fall in clouds of stylised violence, with bursts of colour and flashes of magic rather than close-up gore, though the battlefield tone is unrelenting. It suits strategists and fantasy lovers who want epic scope, detailed systems and the satisfaction of building an empire under the gaze of a newly risen god.
