The story
UFO 50 is a collection of 50 single and multiplayer games from the creators of Spelunky, Downwell, Time Barons, Skorpulac, and Madhouse. Jump in and explore a variety of genres, from platformers and shoot 'em ups to puzzle games and RPGs. Our goal is to combine a familiar 8-bit aesthetic with new ideas and modern game design sensibilities.
What it’s like
Chunky pixel art in a deliberately limited 8-bit palette, with chiptune loops that shift from game to game and a constant sense of a fictional 1980s console library being rummaged through. Each of the fifty small cartridges has its own look and rhythm, so the feel changes often: a brisk side-scroller gives way to a quiet puzzle room, then a shoot 'em up with bright bullet patterns, then a slow strategy map with a humming soundtrack. Short sessions, mostly gentle and playful, with the occasional cartoonish blast or pixelated monster and no gore. The vibe is nostalgic and mischievous, a cheerful curiosity-cabinet to dip into on a lazy afternoon, during a commute on the Switch, or in bursts of late-night "just one more" play. Ideal for players who enjoy hunting for hidden secrets, comparing mechanics across genres, and the warm irreverence of an arcade-era catalogue reimagined with modern design sensibilities.
