The story
Planet Earth is visited by an alien race. Initially, they seem friendly and kind, but over time, their intentions become quite clear. Their peaceful façade quickly turns, also showing their true colors and their real intentions...
What it’s like
Glossy early-1980s television: bright, flat studio light on gleaming white corridors and polished chrome, with the Visitors' mothership hanging over Los Angeles in hazy, ominous wide shots. Sets feel sterile and immaculate, while suburban kitchens and newsrooms are lit in warm, familiar tones that make the intrusion feel close to home. Synth-heavy scoring pulses under tense sequences, and the rhythm is that of a weekly network miniseries, with cliffhangers, slow-building suspicion and hushed conversations in parked cars or dim rooms. The vibe is paranoid and retro-ominous, a sunny facade cracking into dread. Violence is present but mostly restrained: occasional shootings, a few abrupt killings and grim interrogations, with more menace than gore, and sexual content stays minimal. Its people are a journalist, a resistance-minded scientist and a seductive alien commander, and their arcs trace growing distrust, compromise and the slow realization of what has been hiding behind the smiles. Suited to fans of 80s sci-fi, conspiracy-minded viewers and anyone wanting a comfortable, suspenseful binge with an edge of unease.
