The story

Fourteen-year-old Iruma Suzuki has just been abandoned and sold to a demon by his irresponsible parents! Surprisingly, the next thing he knows he's living with the demon who has adopted him as his new grandson and has been transferred into a school in the Netherworld where his new demon grandfather works as the principal. Thus begins the cowardly Iruma-kun's extraordinary school life among the otherworldly as he faces his true self, takes on challenges, and rises to become someone great.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated anime palettes with candy pinks, sky blues and bruised purples against a hellscape that is oddly cheerful: pastel-lit classrooms, glossy cel shading, and the warm clutter of a demon household that feels more like a suburban home than an underworld. The camera stays in brisk, readable comedy staging, with quick cuts, exaggerated reaction faces and bursts of colourful magic effects, while the score leans on bouncy orchestral and synth-pop cues that swell into earnest, hopeful pieces at the emotional beats. Sound design is busy and playful, full of cartoon sound effects and chattering classmates. The vibe is light, upbeat and gently comic, with a sense of a bullied kid discovering he has room to grow; the emotional register is warm and encouraging rather than dark. It suits an easy weeknight binge, background viewing while doing chores, or a comfort watch when you want something cheerful and low-pressure. Intensity is mild: there are slapstick scuffles, magical duels and a few tense exam or ambition moments, but the violence stays cartoonish and nothing lingers in fear or gore. For viewers who want an uplifting fantasy school comedy with a friendly, underdog story and a lot of inventive, silly monsters.
