The story

What's Your Raashee? Yogesh Patel, a young man in a hurry. Yogesh must find his dream girl within 10 days to save his family from utter ruin. Finding the dream girl is tough enough. Finding her in a hurry is even tougher.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated daylight and crowded, colour-loaded frames of Gujarati homes, markets and family gatherings give this Bollywood romantic comedy a busy, sunny energy. Saffron, marigold and turquoise costumes pop against warm interiors, and the camera moves with the pace of a farce: quick cuts, mugging close-ups, and big choreographed song numbers built on dhol beats, brass and bouncy Hindi pop. The vibe is light, chaotic and affectionate, the kind of thing to put on for a lazy afternoon or a cheerful comfort watch with the lights on. A young man rushes through a series of comic misadventures, and the people around him, especially his loud, meddling family, get as much of the attention as the romance. Emotionally it stays warm and upbeat, with a steady run of gentle jokes, mistaken identities and sweet, uncomplicated sentiment. There is no violence, gore or sexual content; the only real intensity is the frantic, slapstick pressure of a deadline. It suits viewers who want a feel-good, family-friendly romp with music, colour and easy laughs, especially those new to Indian cinema or looking for an upbeat escape.
