The story
World of Goo is a multiple award winning physics based puzzle / construction game made entirely by two guys. Drag and drop living, squirming, talking, globs of goo to build structures, bridges, cannonballs, zeppelins, and giant tongues. The millions of Goo Balls that live in the beautiful World of Goo are curious to explore - but they don't know that they are in a game, or that they are extremely delicious. Congratulations, and good luck!
What it’s like
Hand-drawn goo balls with googly eyes and scraggly limbs sit against washed-out watercolour backdrops, soft paper-textured skies, and pale hills that feel like a storybook left out in the rain. The art is flat, bright and charmingly wobbly, and the physics gives every structure a springy, precarious sway, so each tower or bridge seems to breathe as it settles. The soundtrack is gentle and whimsical, with light piano, plucked strings and a playful folk-tinged melody that loosens up the tension of building. The vibe is cosy and quietly mischievous, with a dry, self-aware humour that winks at the player from the edges of the screen. It suits an unhurried evening, a rainy afternoon, or a stretch of background play with a cup of tea nearby. Pacing is set by the player, with short puzzles that rise in cleverness and a steady sense of discovery. Intensity is very low: there is no violence or gore, and any danger is cartoonish and mild, though a few puzzles can frustrate. It is for players who enjoy thinking with their hands and want something charming, gentle and surprisingly funny.
