The story
Former border agent Dalton Kirk thought his life was over—literally—when a gang of smugglers left him for dead. Defying all odds, he survives his ordeal and returns to his Wyoming ranch ready to dedicate his future to a more peaceful home on the range. Until lovely Merissa Baker knocks on his door. Merissa is well aware of her reputation as the local eccentric—she knows things before they happen—and she’s had a vision that Dalton is in danger. Even though her beliefs clash with Dalton’s cowboy logic, she’s determined to save the handsome rancher she’s secretly loved forever. Visions? It’s all ridiculous to Dalton…until things start happening that prove Merissa right. And now Dalton is not the only target—so is Merissa. Can Dalton be bold enough to trust the unknown? Is this Wyoming man ready to love?
What it’s like
Wide, open high-plains country under big skies gives this one its feel: sun-bleached grassland, weathered ranch buildings, dusty pickups, and the quiet of a place where the nearest neighbor is miles off. The prose is warm and unhurried in the way of classic category romance, with plenty of interior reflection on a tough, self-reliant man learning to loosen his grip on logic. Sensory detail leans toward the everyday rhythms of ranch work, horses, cattle, and kitchen-table coffee, while the suspense hums underneath as threats gather. Its vibe is cozy-suspenseful, a little old-fashioned, and romantic at heart, suited to a rainy afternoon, a weekend read on the couch, or a comfort pick when you want steady tension without dread. Intensity is moderate: some menace and a few violent incidents, including a past near-death attack, but no graphic gore, and the romance stays mostly in the realm of longing, glances, and slow-building closeness. The arc follows a wounded, guarded rancher gradually opening up to love and to a worldview he once dismissed. It suits readers who enjoy Western romance with a light supernatural thread and a clear emotional payoff.
