The story
Battle Moon Wars is a PC-made series of Super deformed Tactical RPGs created by Dojin soft developer and publisher Werk in 2005. Its popularity in Japan has given rise to a number of Battle Moon Wars games. The series has a basic similarity to the Super Robot Wars series and its Super deformed looks, as well as taking its crossover concept. The game uses the crossover of Type-Moon's visual novel and anime series, including Tsukihime and Fate/stay night with several original characters made exclusive by Werk. Their involvement in the series are covered as Acts. The game is completely translated, with the story content and interface all translated to English. Known Type-Moon series included Fate/hollow ataraxia Fate/stay night Fate/unlimited codes Fate/zero Kara no Kyōkai Kagetsu Tohya Melty Blood Tsukihime
What it’s like
Chunky, super-deformed sprites in bright, cheerful palettes sit over flat, painted-looking battle maps, with menus and dialogue boxes that keep the cosy, handmade feel of a doujin project. The sound is a bouncy chiptune-style soundtrack pulled from the Type-Moon universe, with stingers and hits that turn each skirmish into a small, playful spectacle, and the game can be played with the sound low while something else is going on. Its vibe is light, silly and affectionate: a fan-service crossover where familiar faces from Tsukihime, Fate and Kara no Kyōkai bump into each other in gags and wide-eyed reunions, with the occasional wistful or serious beat to break things up. Turn-based tactical fights move at an unhurried pace, so it suits a lazy afternoon, a comfort replay, or a stretch of playing in short bursts. Violence is cartoonish and bloodless, with exaggerated hits and no gore, and the occasional sexual innuendo stays suggestive rather than explicit. It is for fans of Type-Moon's characters who enjoy Super Robot Wars-style crossovers and want a gentle, humorous strategy game with plenty of recognisable faces.
