The story

Welcome back to the world of TINY METAL, Commander! TINY METAL: FULL METAL RUMBLE puts you in the boots of three unique commanders bonded by fate, each with their own squads to command and strengthen up on their quest to put an end to a new mysterious, rising threat.

What it’s like

Chunky pixel-art tanks, mechs and infantry sprites sit on hand-drawn anime-styled portraits, all set against tidy grid maps of grassland, forest and sea in bright daylight with soft shading. The palette is clean and saturated, with a bit of gloss on the vehicles, and the animations are brief and punchy, each unit puffing smoke or firing a short volley before the camera settles back on the map. The soundtrack leans on bouncy, slightly militaristic synth-rock and chiptune-flavoured tunes that loop comfortably under long sessions, while unit and dialogue sounds stay light and cartoonish. The vibe is bright, tactical and upbeat, a gentle sort of strategic busyness that suits a lazy afternoon, a commute, or a stretch of quiet evenings with the game on the Switch. Turns move at a patient, unhurried clip, and the story arcs follow three commanders growing closer to their squads as they build up their forces against a rising threat. Violence is cartoonish and bloodless, with explosions and destroyed units but no gore. This is for people who enjoy methodical tactics, light military theming and a friendly, low-stress sense of progress.
