The story

The witching hour strikes again. Brimming with intricate battles that take place in, on and all over epic set pieces, Bayonetta 2 finds our sassy heroine battling angels and demons in unearthly beautiful HD. You’re bound to love how it feels to string together combos with unimaginable weapons and to summon demons using Bayonetta’s Umbran Weave in this frantic stylized action game.

What it’s like

Bright, hyper-stylized chaos rendered in glossy polygonal 3D, with saturated neon-and-gold palettes, sweeping camera angles that pull back during combos, and set pieces that shift from ruined cathedrals to tilting skyscrapers to a sky full of gleaming angels. Hard rock and orchestral swells drive the battles, while the quieter cutscenes play out in bold, theatrical staging and sharp, flirtatious banter. Sensory overload is the point: fast, rhythmic, and intensely kinetic, with plenty of cartoonish violence, heavy stylized gore-tinged impacts, and frequent glimpses of nudity and suggestive poses that are played for camera and comedy rather than titillation. Vibe: loud, cheeky, high-energy and self-aware, best for a late-night session with a controller in hand or a bout of button-mashing when you want something bold and unapologetically fun. Suits players who love combo-driven action, campy female-led heroics, and playful sass, but it is not gentle: expect constant, intense fighting from start to finish.
