The story
BioShock: The Collection is a game bundle consisting of remastered 1080p editions of BioShock, BioShock 2 and BioShock Infinite along with their accompanying downloadable content.
What it’s like
Art deco ruins drowned in green-blue light: the first game's underwater city Rapture is all brass fixtures, flickering bulbs, cracked tile and bioluminescent haze, while the sequels swap in sun-bleached Columbia's cloudscape of gilded pastels and a grimy, rust-and-steam industrial sprawl. Textures are sharpened for 1080p but still carry a painterly, slightly oily sheen, and the camera stays close to the player's hands, with every shadowed corridor built to hold a jump scare. The soundtrack alternates between swelling period jazz and barbershop-style vocals, broken by radio chatter, gurgling pipes and the wet crack of a splicer lunging out of the dark. Vibe: ornate dread with a dreamy, slightly unhinged edge. It suits a late-night session alone, or a weekend of backtracking through familiar rooms with the lights down. Intensity is high: frequent close-quarters gunfire, bloody melee, grisly body horror and disturbing ideas about manipulation and cruelty, though the violence is stylised rather than realistic. The bundle suits players who enjoy atmospheric shooters with strong worldbuilding, rich audio logs and philosophical themes about free will and ideology, and it's a poor fit for anyone wanting something gentle.
