The story

After being assigned to investigate the aftermath of a catastrophic plane crash, an NTSB black box analyst uncovers chilling audio anomalies that no one else seems willing to acknowledge. As he digs deeper for the truth, he provokes powerful forces determined to silence him before he exposes a shocking conspiracy.

What it’s like

Cool, clinical light and restrained framing give this French thriller its hush: sterile lab interiors in blue-grey and sodium-tinted fluorescents, Paris streets washed out under overcast skies, and long, controlled takes that keep the camera close to faces listening hard. Sound does much of the work. Headphones, static, and the faint drift of a voice on a recording become a kind of tension in themselves, and the score stays spare, pulsing under the quieter scenes rather than swelling over them. The mood is cold, watchful unease with a steady, procedural pace that tightens as the investigation tightens. Emotionally it stays in the head more than the body, following an isolated professional who slowly realises the official account doesn't hold together. The crash and the threats around the investigation bring sudden jolts of peril, and there is some violence, but it is brief and not lingered on, with dread doing most of the work over gore. It suits a late evening alone, a focused, slightly paranoid watch with the lights low, and it will appeal to viewers who enjoy airtight thrillers, conspiracy stories with a grounded, technical texture, and tension built from silence and sound more than spectacle.
