The story
Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty is the first DLC for Borderlands 2. The Vault Hunter has discovered a new area of Pandora named Oasis, a once beautiful ocean front resort which is now a run down, deserted wasteland on the edge of a massive desert. Here the Vault Hunter meets up with the owner of the establishment, a Hunter S. Thompson-like character whose friends are not as lively as they used to be. While helping him out there is a new threat that is discovered...pirates, vicious sand pirates who roam the desert seas, with one of these factions being led by the DLC's namesake, Captain Scarlett.
What it’s like
Bright, sun-bleached desert under a hard orange sky, with the dusty ruins of a seaside resort glowing against endless sand, and a gritty, cartoon-punk look built from bold outlines, saturated colour and tinny rock-flecked sound. Gunfire cracks and pops constantly, bouncing off crumbling pools and boardwalks, while the soundtrack leans on wry, twangy guitar and a chattering, larky narrator voice. The vibe is raucous, sun-scorched and scrappy, a loud pulp adventure with a comic wink that suits a weekend evening with friends or a solo session when you want chaotic, goofy momentum. Pacing is fast and loot-driven, with short firefights, quick travel and frequent bursts of banter; emotional stakes stay light, and the story's shape is a stranded, washed-up community pulling itself together against a swaggering pirate rival. Violence is constant but cartoonish: lots of gunplay, explosions and splattering enemies, with blood shown in bright, exaggerated arcs rather than anything grim, and profanity and crude jokes throughout. It is for players who want a cheeky, high-energy shooter with RPG upgrades and an easygoing co-op streak.
