The story

Tales from the Borderlands is a five part episodic game series. Set on the unforgiving world of Pandora after the events seen in Borderlands 2, this is a story full of Borderlands' trademark humor, following two adventurers on their quest for greatness.

What it’s like

Bright, cel-shaded comic-book frames with thick black inking, saturated oranges and teal skies, and speech-bubble panels that snap between characters, so the whole thing reads like a graphic novel you are steering. The sound is a jittery mix of twangy country, synth stingers and gunfire, with a laconic narrator and a lot of loud, deliberate jokes. Dusty canyon towns, rusted scrapyards and a snowy mountain stretch give it a sun-bleached, scruffy feel, and the quick-time choices and dice-roll moments keep your hands busy. Vibe: chaotic, wisecracking and warm, a loose buddy-caper energy with a streak of sardonic sincerity. It suits a playful weekend binge, a dose of gleeful nonsense after a long day, or episodes split across several evenings. Violence is frequent and cartoonish: bloody splatter, gunfights and explosions, brutal in tone but stylised rather than grim, with some crude language and mild sexual humour. For people who want a funny, character-driven adventure with plenty of attitude and a light touch of gore.
