The story

He's the toast of Australian society...Cattleman Cal McKendrick is under pressure from his family to produce an heir for the magnificent McKendrick homestead that lies deep in the Outback. Then he discovers he's already a father! She's the mother of the son he never knew he had. Gina Romano had loved Cal with all her soul. But in her heart she'd known she'd never be good enough for him or his society family--so she'd kept her pregnancy secret. Now that Cal knows the truth, he demands she marry him. But Gina wants Cal's love, not just to be his convenient bride....

What it’s like

Warm, sun-bleached Outback romance with a comfort-read ease: wide dusty plains under hard blue skies, homestead verandahs at dusk, and the slow, dusty rhythm of station life, all rendered in the light, accessible prose typical of Harlequin-style category romance. The voice is brisk and emotionally direct, leaning on internal monologue and glances across a room more than on lush description, so the landscape arrives as backdrop rather than spectacle. The mood is tender and bittersweet, with a steady undercurrent of pride, class friction and unspoken longing, and the arc follows a proud rancher and a woman who has kept a secret out of self-doubt, both slowly learning to trust each other. Intimacy is present and romantic rather than explicit; there is no violence beyond ordinary family tension and no gore. It suits a rainy Sunday, a holiday read, or an evening when you want a satisfying, low-stakes love story with a happy resolution. It is for readers who enjoy classic small-town and station romance, second-chance tension and a hero who must learn humility.
