What it’s like
Sun-bleached Belle Époque boulevards rendered in painterly light: ochre stone, pale blue skies, and soft golden haze that turns to cold grey at the edges of the map. Its battlefields glow with stylised spell effects, and the camera pulls back to frame duelling figures against vast, dreamlike vistas. The score leans on swelling strings and waltz rhythms that drop away into hushed, ambient passages when the mood turns sombre. Combat is turn-based, but every attack and parry asks for precise timed button presses, so the hands stay busy even as the pace stays deliberate. The vibe is melancholic and elegant, a bittersweet elegy wrapped in gorgeous decay, with an undercurrent of dread that surfaces around a looming, annual erasure of the population. Violence is frequent and stylised, with dramatic boss fights and blade-and-magic clashes, but there is little gore, and the sexual content is absent. It suits a rainy evening, a late-night session with headphones, or anyone who wants a long, emotionally weighty RPG. The Deluxe outfits offer a light touch of costume flair for characters already carrying a lot of grief.
