The story
Dark Souls Remastered is a remastered version of the original game Dark Souls. The updated version of the game features graphical enhancements, an expanded online mode, and the Artorias of the Abyss DLC.
What it’s like
Murky, gothic and deliberately oppressive: crumbling stone cathedrals, moss-slick ruins and fog-choked wastelands rendered in a grimy, desaturated palette, with torchlight and sickly bonfire glow doing most of the lighting work. The remaster sharpens textures and lifts resolution without softening the gloom, so ruined towers still loom against bruised skies and every shadow hides something. Sound is sparse and heavy: wet footsteps on flagstone, the clank of armour, distant bells and groans, and a low, mournful score that surfaces only at boss encounters. Its vibe is grim, patient dread with flashes of grandeur, best suited to a late evening alone with headphones or a long stretch of focused play. The pace is punishing and deliberate, built on slow exploration, careful combat and hard-won progress, with the emotional arc of a weary, cursed wanderer drawn gradually into a larger, decaying world. Intensity is high: frequent sword and magic violence, blood spatter, grotesque undead and monsters, and recurring fear through ambush and steep difficulty, though gore stays stylised rather than extreme. Built for players who want a demanding, atmospheric challenge and enjoy learning a world through patience, failure and quiet discovery.
