The story

A single-player first-person shooter and prequel to Doom (2016). Set in the dark medieval world of Argent D'Nur, players control the Doom Slayer in a grounded, weighty combat style that emphasizes strategic engagements over the acrobatic mobility of previous entries. The game introduces a Shield Saw for blocking and parrying, new melee weapons, and drivable vehicles including a cybernetic dragon and a massive mech. The narrative focuses on the Slayer's origin story with expanded cutscenes and character development.

What it’s like

Smoky torchlit castles, molten orange glow against cold black stone, and ash drifting through grim medieval ruins give the look a heavy, oppressive weight, with hellish reds bleeding into every fight. The palette is dark and iron-toned, and the first-person view stays close and unsteady during battle, so every blow and blast feels physical. The sound is a thundering, distorted metal-leaning score under the crunch of armour, roaring demons and the whine of the Shield Saw. Vibe: brutal, grim, sombre spectacle. It suits a late-night session with headphones on, or a stretch of evening when you want something driven and punishing. Pacing is deliberate, built around holding ground, blocking and choosing engagements, with bursts of mech and dragon mayhem. The Slayer's origin is told with a stern, stoic tone and little warmth. Intensity is very high: extreme, bloody gore, dismemberment and relentless violence, with no gentle moments. It is made for players who want grounded, weighty combat and monstrous, gory set pieces.
