The story
Doom Eternal is a first-person shooter developed by id Software and the sequel to Doom (2016). Players control the Doom Slayer as he fights to end a demonic invasion of Earth. Combat is built around aggressive resource management, where health, armor, and ammo are gained by executing, igniting, or chainsawing enemies. The game introduces platforming segments, destructible enemy weak points, an expanded weapon arsenal, and a multiplayer mode called Battlemode, where one player-controlled Slayer fights two player-controlled demons.
What it’s like
Hot red-orange hellscapes under blackened skies, with the palette tipped into rust, ember and sickly violet, and bright flashes of plasma and muzzle fire cutting through smoke and gore-slicked stone. The camera stays locked in the Slayer's first-person eye, so every shake, recoil kick and staggered lunge of a demon lands close and physical, while the arenas sprawl into vast vertical gothic architecture that rewards constant movement. The soundtrack is a heavy, distorted metal score of pounding double-kick drums and churning riffs that swells the moment a fight begins, and the weapons have a meaty, mechanical punch. The vibe is relentless and triumphant, a high-octane adrenaline surge rather than dread. Pacing is frantic, with short bursts of exploration and platforming breaking up dense, escalating combat loops. The intensity is very high: constant graphic violence, bloody executions, dismemberment and chainsaw gore, with demonic enemies throughout and no sexual content. It suits players who want loud, visceral, skill-driven shooting and a charged soundtrack, not a gentle or slow-burn experience.
