The story

Developed by id software, the studio that pioneered the first-person shooter genre and created multiplayer Deathmatch, Doom returns as a brutally fun and challenging modern-day shooter experience. Relentless demons, impossibly destructive guns, and fast, fluid movement provide the foundation for intense, first-person combat – whether you’re obliterating demon hordes through the depths of Hell in the single-player campaign, or competing against your friends in numerous multiplayer modes. What it’s like

Hellish reds and rust-brown industrial grime, lit by the sickly orange glow of lava and the cold blue of UAC corridors, with the screen often flooded by blood-spatter and the sharp white flash of muzzle fire. The art direction leans into heavy, sculpted demon designs and clean, hard-edged sci-fi architecture, while the soundtrack is a relentless, distorted metal pulse that rarely lets up, broken by chunky, satisfying weapon thuds and the wet crunch of glory kills. Its vibe is hyperkinetic and grimly triumphant, a loud, sweaty adrenaline workout rather than a quiet one. It suits a late-night session with headphones, a weekend burst of frantic play with friends, or a stretch of pure stress-release after a long day. Pacing is fast and aggressive, with combat arenas that demand constant movement, aggression and resource juggling, and the emotional register is cocky, gleeful and unrelenting. The intensity is high: frequent, graphic gore, explosive violence, grotesque demon deaths and a constant threat of death, though nothing lingers in dread for long. For players who want a brutal, fast, skill-testing shooter with bold style and a fierce sense of momentum, and who are comfortable with heavy, cartoonish-but-bloody violence.
