The story

In addition to support for modern systems and improved rendering techniques, this remastered version includes both mission packs, Scourge of Armagon and Dissolution of Eternity. It also includes two episodes created by MachineGames: the previously-released Dimension of the Past and a new one called Dimension of the Machine.

What it’s like

Dark brown stone corridors lit by the hot orange glow of torches, slimy green lava pools, and the flat grey-metal bulk of Strogg machinery, all rendered with sharper modern textures and dynamic lighting over the original 1996 look. The sound is the crunch of heavy footsteps on grating, the wet slap of gibs, and a low ambient drone broken by sudden industrial clangs and the chunky boom of the shotgun. Pace is relentless: rooms fill with monsters, you sprint, strafe and circle-jump through labyrinthine levels, and stop only to find keys and secrets. Tone is grim, gothic and deliberately old-school, with pulpy dread and cheerful, unapologetic bloodshed rather than tension built on story. Violence is constant and stylised, with blood-spray gore and gib explosions, plus demonic monsters and some jump scares; it is not sexual and carries no real cruelty beyond the monsters themselves. Co-op and multiplayer options make it social, and the two added expansions and MachineGames episode extend the same loop. Made for players who want fast, physical shooter combat, dense maze exploration, and nostalgia for classic PC first-person action.
