The story

You are humanity's last hope to stop the Strogg, a hostile alien race waging war against Earth. Play this military sci-fi FPS, now upgraded for modern platforms with improved visuals, new campaign content, online multiplayer/co-op, and more.

What it’s like

Dark, brown-grey industrial corridors lit by the sickly green glow of Strogg machinery and the hard orange flash of muzzle fire, with rain-slick alien hulls and cramped metal interiors that feel claustrophobic and oppressive. The remaster keeps the 1997 original's grimy, low-poly-era sensibility but sharpens textures, lighting and effects for current consoles and PC, so the look reads as moody rather than glossy. The soundtrack is a thrumming industrial score, punctuated by guttural alien vocalisations, heavy weapon fire and the metallic clank of machinery, with brief moments of near silence that heighten the unease. Its vibe is grimy, adrenaline-fuelled dread, best suited to a late evening alone or a loud weekend session with friends in co-op. The pacing is relentless: fast, fluid movement through tight arenas, with dense ambushes and periodic breathers between firefights. Violence is constant and intense, with gunfire, gibbing and grotesque alien creatures, though the horror comes from atmosphere and ambush more than gore for its own sake. This is for players who want a hard-edged, high-tempo shooter with a sinister, claustrophobic mood and no interest in gentleness.
