The story
The complete megahit game that set the world afire. Plus All-New Episode IV: Thy Flesh Consumed. The demons came and the marines died. Except one. You are the last defense against these hell-spawned hordes. Prepare for the most intense mutant-laden, blood-splattered action ever! The texture-mapped virtual world is so real, you don't just play Doom - you live it.
What it’s like
Hard-edged and relentless, with a palette of rust-brown corridors, slate-grey walls, and sudden bursts of hellish red light from lava pits, blood-smeared tiles and glowing demonic eyes. The 2.5D perspective, with sprite enemies lunging out of pixelated dark, gives it a flat, pulpy look that still reads as claustrophobic, and the maze-like layouts keep you turning corners into fresh threats. The soundtrack is pure heavy metal, loud and driving, sitting over the grind of chainsaws, shotgun blasts and the wet, guttural cries of the enemies. Sensory feel is grimy, sweaty and pumped-up, with steam venting from pipes and teleporter flashes punctuating the chaos. Pacing is frantic: short bursts of exploration, then sudden, bloody combat that rarely lets up. Intensity is high: constant graphic violence, gore and gruesome deaths, with fear coming from ambush and swarm rather than suspense. Best for players who want a fast, loud, one-man-army rampage on a rainy night, and fans of arcade-style shooters who enjoy co-op runs with friends.
