The story
Doom95 is an official port of Doom to the Microsoft Windows operating system, and is included in many later releases of The Ultimate Doom, Doom II, and Final Doom.
What it’s like
Grimy, saturated pixel-art hellscapes: rust-brown corridors lit by sickly green slime, blood-red skies, and the orange glow of lava pools across industrial bases and gothic ruins. The look is the original 1993 Doom, with its chunky sprites and flat-shaded walls, now running in a Windows window with the crisp mouse-aim and sound-card polish of mid-nineties PC gaming. The soundtrack is a driving industrial metal score of distorted guitars and heavy drum loops that pulses through every room, broken by the grunt of imps, the hiss of plasma fire and the wet crunch of gibs. Its vibe is feverish, adrenaline-charged and relentlessly loud, the kind of play that suits a late-night session alone with the lights off or a nostalgic weekend spent revisiting classic shooters. Pacing is brisk and combat-driven, with short levels that reward fast reflexes and fearless movement over patience. Violence is constant and cartoonishly gory, with demons exploding into gore at every hit, though the tone stays more pulpy and gleeful than genuinely horrifying. It is for players who want uncomplicated, muscular shooting and retro PC nostalgia.
