The story

Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening is the only expansion for Dragon Age: Origins. There are both retail disc and downloadable editions available.

What it’s like

Dark, gritty fantasy in muddy greens, ash greys and torchlit stone, with the grim palette of a medieval war-zone softened by the warm glow of campfires and the cold blue of night fortress halls. The game's art direction leans on painterly environments and heavy armour, and its soundscape is a rolling orchestral score that swells in battle and drops to near-silence in ruins and camps, punctuated by clanking steel, arrow thunks and the hiss of spells. Exploration unfolds in a deliberate, unhurried rhythm: long walks across wild landscapes, tense fights against groups that demand tactical pausing, then quiet talk around the fire. Its tone is sombre and earnest, with a melancholy edge about duty, loss and the cost of leadership, and its character arcs follow a hardened protagonist learning to trust a band of misfits. The intensity is considerable: bloody melee and gruesome deaths, frequent sword-and-sorcery combat, dread-laden dungeons, and themes of slavery and sexual content with some nudity. It suits a late-night, committed playthrough with headphones, and it is for players who enjoy tactical party combat, branching dialogue, and dark fantasy with weight.
