The story

Enderal is a total conversion for TES V: Skyrim: a game modification that is set in its own world with its own landscape, lore and story. It offers an immersive open world, all for the player to explore, overhauled skill systems and gameplay mechanics and a dark, psychological storyline with believable characters.

What it’s like

Sweeping open landscapes under a pale, drifting sky, with the warm amber of lantern-lit taverns set against cold blue dusk in the wilder reaches, give this action role-playing game a painterly, slightly melancholic look built on the Skyrim engine but reshaped into its own world. Its vibe is grand but uneasy: wandering fields and ruined villages at a slow, deliberate pace, punctuated by stretches of combat that are fast and physical rather than cinematic. Music leans on orchestral swells and quiet ambient drones that thicken as the mood darkens, and the soundscape of wind, distant bells and creaking wood makes exploration feel unhurried. Quests and conversations carry a dark, psychological undertone, with characters whose motives stay ambiguous and whose arcs turn on guilt, loyalty and what people will do under pressure. Violence is frequent and weighty, with blood and bodies in combat and some grim scenes, though it is stylised rather than gratuitous, and there is fear and unease more than horror. It suits long, absorbing evenings alone, and players who enjoy building a character's skills and spending hours exploring a world at their own pace.
