The story

The Shadow of the Erdtree Edition includes the base game and the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.

What it’s like

Ashen, wind-scoured open country under a sickly golden sky, then the dimmer, more ornate lands beyond: a palette of bruised gold, grey stone and pale mist, lit by low dramatic sun and the sudden bloom of lightning. The camera stays close and third-person, so each hulking enemy looms over the frame, and the world opens into long vistas that reward patience. Sound is sparse and heavy: wind, distant bells, a choir swelling only at major confrontations, and the wet thud of armour and weapons in the hands. Pacing is deliberate and unforgiving, with long stretches of exploration punctuated by brutal, precise boss duels that demand repetition and learning. Violence is frequent and stylised, with blood and gore in combat and dread-heavy, grim imagery, but no sexual content. The emotional register is melancholy and awe, with a lone wanderer gradually earning mastery over a fallen, mythic world. Best for players who want a challenging open-world RPG, savouring atmosphere and rewarding persistence over easy comfort.
