What it’s like
Sun-bleached Los Santos glowing under a restless palette of golden-hour haze, humid night neon and rain-slicked asphalt, with the city's sprawl rendered in this enhanced edition's sharpened lighting, denser foliage and reflective surfaces. Sound does much of the work: a rotating radio dial of classic rock, hip hop and talk stations drifts through every drive, punctuated by gunfire, sirens and the crunch of traffic. The mood is restless, wry and kinetic, a satirical sandbox where long freeway cruises at sunset can slide into chaotic heists and then back to quiet, aimless wandering. Pacing swings between slow, meandering downtime and sudden bursts of set-piece tension. Violence is frequent and cartoonishly graphic, with shootouts, car chases and explosions, and crude language and adult humour throughout; it is not gentle. Its three criminal protagonists move through greed, estrangement and fraying loyalties, with the story's bleak cynicism leavened by absurd comedy. It suits players who want a loud, open-ended playground for a long weekend, or co-op friends who enjoy chaotic shared heists and cruising the city together.
