The story

Along with a multitude of new tools for waging war, Crimson Curse introduces over 100 cards across all of GWENT’s playable factions. Players will be able to afflict the enemy with Poison and Bleeding, use Shield and Vitality to defend against incoming damage, as well as attempt to turn the tide of battle using the Deathblow and Berserk gameplay mechanics. As always, every card comes in both a standard version and a premium animated variant — one of the hallmark features of GWENT’s presentation.

What it’s like

Painted, storybook card art in warm candlelit tones, with the premium animated variants giving key figures a slow, looping motion that feels like a stilled illustration coming briefly to life. The board sits like a wooden tavern table under low amber light, and the sound is a quiet tavern-and-ballad mix: lute-like strings, distant chatter, the soft slap of cards being laid down. Crimson Curse brings a deeper red into that palette, with blood-dark accents and a slightly ominous edge that fits the expansion's name. The pace is deliberate and turn-based, a steady rhythm of setting up, reading the board and weighing a comeback, with long pauses for thought. Emotionally it is calm and absorbing, more tense puzzle than adrenaline. The conflict is abstract and tabletop-style: poison and bleeding tick away over rounds, and shields and vitality soak up damage, so the fighting reads as strategy rather than gore. Fantasy violence is implied through illustration and never shown graphically, making it gentle for most players. It suits a slow evening alone, a rainy afternoon, or a session with a friend across the table. It is for players who enjoy collecting, theorycrafting and quiet competition, and who want a card battler with atmosphere to match its mechanics.
